It's also spoken frequently in many other countries. In fact, it is the second most popular language in the United States, which makes learning to speak Spanish imperative for some. First, you learn the fundamentals and manual build upon those basics as you go through your coursework. Without this type of systematic approach, you may miss key points that you'll later need. This can be confusing, and get in the way of progress.
If you'd prefer to learn in a classroom environment, almost all colleges and universities offer at least one Spanish course per term. However, if distance or your schedule makes it difficult or impossible to get to the classroom, you can do independent study through other means such as CDs, DVD, tapes, or online programs.
While there are definite advantages to learning a language in a group setting, such as being able to converse and give one another feedback and pointers, there is also a lot to be said for independent language study. The biggest benefit to independent courses is convenience, since you can work at your own schedule, pace and location. What does this mean, then? No matter your situation, there is a way for you to learn Spanish that's perfect for you.
