People all around the world gamble, whether it\'s just playing the simple weekly lottery or visiting the casino, they are all classed as gambling games. But what is the real fascination and why do so many people like to gamble there hard earned money away? We take a look at a few reasons as to why people may want to do this and find out the real attractions.

I think one of the foremost reasons is because people want to have something for nothing. If money was growing on trees I expect that trees would no longer exist as most citizens around the world would flock to them and damage them. The same thing exactly applies to gambling. You visit a casino and you play on the slot machines, you ultimately play these machines to win vast amounts of money back. In the back of your mind you know that these machines will not make you rich, because in the end they are only set up to pay out when they reach a certain level. Of course these companies have to make a healthy profit.

But where do you stop yourself? When do you tell yourself that enough is enough? That is where gambling gets a lot trickier. Most people try to convince themselves that it is just another form of entertainment, rather than to admit they are addicted. I think if a person knows that they are captivated then they have the ability to get help and stop.

Did you know the likelihood of winning the lottery or ever winning any other huge amount of money, is as likely as lightning hitting you, but still people decide to get addicted to the game, which will ultimately end up ruining there lives and anybody that is close to them.

So What Can I Do?

Well there are various methods which you can take to help yourself control the urge of gambling. As mentioned above if you are not in denial then you are definitely on the first step to recovery.

There are various classes in which you can attend, where you can meet fellow recovering gamblers, these do tend to help quite a lot. If you are not up for getting help socially then you should try to fight your own urges. By this I mean find another activity to do instead of visiting the casino etc. Take up a sport or get a hobby to take your mind off of things.
